Choc Almond Paddle Pops

Choc Almond Paddle Pops

Makes 4

Ingredients

½ cup Luz Original Almond Milk

1 tbsp raw cacao

2 tbsp Isowhey Wholefoods Cacao, Maca & Mesquite

1 tbsp coconut butter

¼ cup slivered almonds, toasted

¼ – ½ cup frozen or fresh avocado

Method

  1. Blend ingredients until smooth consistency.
  2. Fill moulds and then place in freezer for a few hours until frozen.

Optional: Melt approximately 60g-80g dark chocolate with a teaspoon of coconut oil. Pour melted chocolate over ice block, working as quickly as you can to prevent the ice cream melting. Then roll in crushed almonds (1/2 cup toasted & chopped).

Matcha Almond Pancakes

Matcha Almond Pancakes

Ingredients

1/3 – ½ cup Luz Matcha Almond Milk

1 egg, lightly beaten

½ cup almond meal

1 tsp Being Co Matcha powder

½ tsp vanilla extract

½ tsp baking powder

coconut oil for cooking

fresh fruit, for serving

honeycomb (optional)

Method

1. Combine egg, almond meal, matcha and baking powder in a bowl.

2. Slowly add the Luz Matcha Almond Milk, starting with a third of a cup and adding more if required to thin out the mixture.

3. Heat a small fry pan over medium heat and add a teaspoon of coconut oil.

4. Add ½ cup matcha mixture and allow to cook for 2-3 minutes per side or until set.

5. Repeat with remaining mixture.

6. Serve with fresh fruit, honey comb and for an extra treat why not top with a delicious scoop of Luz Almond Burnt Toffee and Macadamia Frozen Dessert!

Berry Chia Trifle

Berry Chia Trifle

Serve as a delicious nourishing breakfast or a healthy dessert!

Ingredients
1/3 cup chia seeds
2 cups Original or Medjool Date Luz Almond Milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
honey or maple syrup to taste (optional)
¼ cup almond meal or LSA
¼ cup coconut flakes
1 cup fresh or frozen berries
Arils from ½ pomegranate
Method
  1. Combine chia seeds with almond milk, mix and leave to sit until chia seeds have swollen (10-20mins).
  2. Add vanilla, almond meal and coconut flakes, mix to combine.
  3. Fill two glasses about 3cm of the way up with the chia mix, then sprinkle with frozen berries and pomegranate arils, then repeat with remaining chia mix, berries and pomegranate arils.
  4. Refrigerate preferably overnight.

Luz Almond proudly collaborated with Vie Active a while back on their awesome Barre & Brunch event which raised money for the Butterfly Foundation, an not-for-profit organisation which provides supports to those people and families suffering from eating disorders. It is not only their beautiful range of functional and fashionable activewear which is why we love this brand so much but also this down-to-earth attitude and support of such organisations.

As an activewear brand, it is unsurprising that the Vie Active girls are passionate about health so we asked them if we could have a peak inside their fridge, to which they welcomed up with open arms. Check it out:

A little more on what’s inside the Vie Active fridge:

  • Lots of fresh berries to snack on throughout the day and add to smoothie bowls and salads
  • Fresh Medjool dates for when our afternoon sweet tooth hits
  • Avocados – we love including these in our green smoothies and salads to pack our diet with healthy fats
  • Almond butter – perfect to snack on with apples
  • The bottom shelf has our green smoothie essentials:
    • fresh kale
    • bananas
    • bee pollen (an amazing complete source of protein)
  • Greek yoghurt to add some protein to our berries
  • Smoked salmon – we’re in LA at the moment so spelt bagels with avocado and smoked salmon are a go to lunch after a hard workout
  • Unsweetened almond milk ( it would be Luz if we weren’t in LA) essential for our smoothies, raw deserts and our coffees

Quick Q&A with Vie Active

Q: Why do you think it is important to maintain a healthy weight?
A: A healthy weight is important to us because if your weight is healthy it’s more likely your body is healthy. You have a lower risk of disease, health problems and aches and pains and when your body is running well you feel and look better.

Q: What do you do to maintain a healthy weight?
A: To Vie Active maintaining a healthy weight requires a healthy relationship with not only food and exercise but also your mind. There are a lot of factors that come into play when maintaining a healthy weight – stress, hormones, activity levels and many of these can relate to how you feel. We believe the happier and healthier you feel the easier it is to maintain a healthy weight. One practice we try to do regularly is taking time to do something that loves our body back – yoga, a massage, dry body brushing – these things make us feel happy and healthy and that makes it easier to make healthier choices, be motivated to exercise and maintain a healthy weight.

Spiced Christmas Chia

Spiced Christmas Chia

Ingredients

1/4 tsp nutmeg

⅛  tsp ground cloves

⅛ tsp ground ginger

½ tsp cinnamon

pinch of himalayan salt

15mL 100%  pure maple syrup

500mL Luz Medjool date milk

Decoration

1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries

Arils of ½ – 1 pomegranate

Silver cachous in assorted sizes

 

1. Combine all chia pudding ingredients in a bowl and stir to avoid the chia seeds clumping.

2. Leave chia seeds to swell for approximately 10 minutes and then stir again.

3. Place in fridge for 1-2 hours or overnight.

4. Remove from fridge when ready to serve and top with raspberries, pomegranate and a generous sprinkle of silver cachous.

Start your day with this nutrient packed smoothie!
Ingredients

1 cup Luz Almond Cold Pressed Almond milk with Medjool Date

½ bunch mint, roughly chopped

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp cacao powder

Maple syrup to taste

1 frozen banana

 

Method
1. Blend all ingredients until smoothie consistency, adding maple syrup last to taste.
2. Top with a mint leaf and there you have a delicious and nutritious breakfast which will keep you full for hours!

During our recent trip to New York, I was lucky enough to meet the very lovely Heather Cox who through her passion for fresh, organic and most importantly REAL food, founded her company Eat Real Food NYC. Originally born in Sydney, and having lived all over the world, Heather currently spends her time between the Hamptons and NYC. Consequently you will find upon exploring her website Eat Real Food NYC that Heather not only highlights the best New York has to offer in terms of great wholefood stores, markets and restaurants but she also includes her best picks from both the Hamptons and Sydney as well. In addition she also shares her own clean, fresh, healthy food recipes … check out the chocolate hazelnut banana tart which looks to die for!!!

Heather’s philosophy which is defined by her company name and supported by all that she does is that everyone deserves access to fresh, organic and most importantly REAL food. Thus she is a firm believer in using education, awareness and inspiration as a means of creating this. In line with this some of Heather’s most important work includes working with Stone Barns Centre for Food and Agriculture, where she teaches kids about the importance of knowing where their food comes from, sustainable farming and healthy eating. She also teach kids yoga and work at Balsam Farm Stand over the summer. While extremely dedicated to eating a clean, pescatarian diet, Heather openly admits to enjoying such indulgences such as cheese, wine and chocolate because as she puts it ‘’Quite simply life would be boring without it”! On Wednesday August 27th Team Luz joined forces with Sarah Wilson and the lovely IQS girls for an afternoon of sugar-free treats, Luz cold pressed almond milk and a cup of tea!

We were joined by the wonderful Alexx Stuart – the founder and face behind Real Food & Low Tox Living, Lee Holmes – founder of Supercharged Food and author of a number of books by the same name, Peta Shulman – founder and director of the incredible GoodnessMe Box, Rebecca Gawthorne – qualified accredited practising dietitian and nutritionist and founder of her own private clinic inspiring others to live healthily and last but not least the lovely Alison Morgan – founder of Relauncher Alison, her own company which provides health and wellness business coaching to other passionate people in the field.

In addition we had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca and Kerry who were the delightful winners of the IQS ‘Win a place at our Sugar-Free High Tea’ Competition!
